Zhegushao felt a sense of foreboding when he saw the skeleton. Hearing Elder Liaochen's serious tone, he realized the situation was serious and asked, "What does it mean when the Bodhisattva closes its eyes?"
Elder Liaochen replied, "The moon has seventy-two phases, and tonight is a major phase, which brings misfortune and evil. It’s said that during such times, the yang energy on the ground weakens, and the yin energy rises, making it easy for strange things to happen. No one dares to enter a tomb and raid it during such a time. At first, I thought this was an empty tomb, but to my surprise, there’s a skeleton inside, and even more unsettling is the Thousand-Eyed Black Buddha behind it. This black Buddha is not an ordinary object. If there are evil spirits hidden in this tomb, our black donkey hooves and sticky rice won’t help us tonight. We should retreat quickly."
Though Zhegushao was reluctant, he understood the gravity of the situation. He didn’t say more and turned to leave with Elder Liaochen and Father Thomas, heading back through the tunnel under the Jade Gate.
